Please note: all unlacquered Trevor James Signature Custom saxophones leave the factory with a highly polished finish that is visually similar to that of a standard lacquered instrument. Over time, the body of the saxophone will develop an aged look, which will eventually show the raw brass of the horn. This completely natural process starts as soon as the saxophone leaves the factory and makes contact with air, which may explain why your saxophone has small signs of ageing on it when you receive it. If you are looking for a shiny, polished instrument, then we do not advise that you purchase an unlacquered instrument. However, if you're looking to achieve that genuinely vintage and superb finish (similar to the instruments used by Snake Davis'), then we highly recommend unlacquered instruments.
Hand made in England
The Signature Custom Saxophone, meticulously crafted in England, showcases the country's distinguished heritage of producing high-end musical instruments. Skilful technicians at the TJ Lenham pro-sax workshop hand-finish each saxophone, ensuring a level of precision and attention to detail that elevates the sound and performance of the instrument. The hand-crafted quality of this saxophone means that every tone hole, every bit of keywork, and every touchpiece is carefully refined to produce an exceptional sound.
Ergonomic and responsive
This instrument is designed with a focus on ergonomics, ensuring a comfortable and effortless playing experience. Some key features that contribute to its ergonomic design are the blue steel springs and leather pads. The springs provide a smooth and consistent key action, allowing for better control and a faster response. The leather pads ensure optimal sealing and resistance to wear, improving sound quality and projection. Together, these features deliver an unparalleled playing experience that prioritises comfort and ease of use.
Another great enhancement of playability is the high-quality regulation buffers. These buffers help maintain consistent key heights and provide a balanced, even feel across the entire range of the instrument. The regulation buffers are beneficial in reducing mechanical noise and enhancing key stability, resulting in a more seamless and enjoyable playing experience. Double-armed keys also offer improved stability and durability, reducing the likelihood of them bending or becoming misaligned.
Authentically vintage timbre and appearance
Trevor James offers the Signature Custom in a RAW unlacquered version for a vintage aesthetic. Its unlacquered finish not only contributes to its visual appeal but also has a positive impact on the sound quality. The absence of lacquer allows the natural resonance of the brass to come through, resulting in a warmer, more authentic tone reminiscent of vintage saxophones.
This unadulterated sound quality, combined with the instrument's visual appeal, creates an irresistible allure for musicians who value both form and function. The RAW XS model takes the vintage aesthetic a step further with its meticulous hand-buffing process. By carefully buffing the instrument's surface, the skilled artisans at the TJ Lenham pro-sax workshop create a unique finish that enhances the saxophone's raw, aged appearance.
