The company began in 1962 after Jim Marshall heard guitarists in his shop discussing the qualities they were looking for in an guitar amp, qualities that they couldn't find elsewhere at that time. He made the decision to start building his own guitar amps as a cheaper alternative to the American-made amps he was stocking at the time, and the seminal JTM45 was born.

Marshall have used this heritage to develop and expand their range to include a number of affordable amps, making the infamous Marshall tone available the masses. This includes the solid-state MG series, the all valve DSL series, and have taken a strong step into modelling amplifiers with the impressive CODE series.
