The Makala Waterman MK-SWB/SLB Soprano Ukulele has been innovatively crafted from water resistant Polycarbonate. This type of high quality plastic is injection moulded to create one piece of moulded plastic making up the back, sides, back of the neck and back of the headstock. Because it is water resistant, it is both easy to clean, and can also withstand extreme conditions such as watersports and camping. Waterman Ukuleles were especially designed for the outdoor enthusiast, and pays special tribute to people that live the waterman outdoor lifestyle, hence the name.
Equipped with Aquila Super Nylgut Strings and Nickel plated open gear tuners, this portable instrument sounds just as good as it looks, and even stays in tune for longer.
Kala was launched in 2005 in Sonoma Country, north of San Francisco. They have been the popular choice for Ukuleles over the past decade due to their diverse range of unique Ukuleles for all types of requirements. The Waterman range of Ukuleles pays a special homage to Mario Maccaferri, who was inspired at the 1939 world's fair after he saw plastic as the material of the future. His vision was brought to life after combining his skills as a luthier and his business of injection moulding and produced the Maccaferri Ukulele. This was just the beginning, and after being endorsed by entertainer Arthur Godfrey, 9 million Maccaferri Ukuleles were sold from 1949 to 1969, and is still a popular instrument today.
