Key Features

The JEM7V is equipped with a thin neck to give easy reach over all 6 strings. The flat 430mm-radius fingerboard creates incredible balance across the strings, while the 6105 frets are narrow and tall for superior string-control with improved intonation. The top frets (21-24) are scalloped, which Steve specifies for greater finger control on the very smallest frets at the top of the neck.
The alder body has a bright and resonant tone that gives great versatility and can adapt to many different sounds, based on your pickup choices and control adjustments. The JEM body shape is an original design which went on to inspire the ubiquitous RG body shape - favoured by metal players for its incredible top-fret access and comfortable body contours.
The Evolution pickups were developed by DiMarzio over two years. The bridge pickup is tight and aggressive while the neck position is fat, punchy and loud. The pickups have a patented dual-resonance configuration which produces greatly-enhanced harmonic content for a complex tone. When used for live gigs, these pickups can be used with an overdriven amp to create a huge sound with great complexity and a nuanced response to every detail of your playing. When used in the studio, these pickups will help you cut through any mix.
The "Monkey Grip" cutaway is a signature Steve Vai touch that also has a practical element, letting you carry the guitar with one hand. Whether you use it for that purpose or not, the Monkey Grip certainly gives the JEM guitars their own stand-out look. The JEM7V also has a "Lion's Claw" tremolo arm cavity, so you can use the tremolo in both the up and down direction. A Tree of Life fingerboard inlay also gives this guitar its signature aesthetic.
The Edge tremolo is an original Ibanez double-locking design and can enable the most extreme whammy bar tricks, safe in the knowledge that your strings will return to pitch accurately after use. The whammy bar is a big part of Steve Vai's sound, and the Edge system will let you create expressive pitch-shifting effects just like Steve. A gold finish gives a classy aesthetic and complements the high-quality tuners and locking nut. The Edge system is supplied with an Ultra-Lite arm, so you can set up the arm position with ease.
